The Family Toy Box is a home-based family business specializing in handmade and earth friendly custom toys. We believe our toys are a wholesome alternative to mass produced toys of questionable safely. Because we are a small scale business, we know exactly what goes into our toys.
When ordering custom toys, please send us a brief description of what you have in mind, including sizes. We'll get back to you with several possibilities, as well as any questions we might have, and a price quote. This year we are taking a limited number of orders for before Christmas delivery.
Below are examples of toys we have made.
(Note: These toys have already been loved and played with by our three-year old)
This wooden kitchen stands 4ft tall and is 2ft wide and is made from cypress wood. It was made as an old fashioned wood stove, hence the compartments. There is also a hidden cupboard shelf on the top. Many variations could be added to this theme, such as a sink, stove burners, knobs, etc.
These are simply small pine wood cars. Other possibilities could be buses or trains.
This set of big pinewood unit blocks is wonderful for building. The set is actually larger, but we couldn't find several pieces when the photo was taken. It should also include four triangle pieces and two arches and two half circles.
This fire engine is our son's newest and most precious toy. It is 2 ft long and designed to be sturdy enough to be ridden upon. The steering wheel actually steers and the top of the back has hinges and can be opened to reveal a space for loading up.
This is a stepstool, which has become invaluable to our three year old, who is just big enough to want to be involved, but usually not quite tall enough. It stands about 2 ft high and is made from cypress.
This is the top and side view of a wooden cradle. It was built low to the ground, to minimize any risk of it being knocked over. It's wonderful to be able to set the baby down for a short nap close at hand where I can keep an eye on her, and even drag her around still sleeping, if needed. It is 3ft long and 18" wide, crafted from cypress wood.
This is a wooden potty seat made from cedar wood, which was used by our toddler until he grew out of it. We simply placed a ceramic mixing bowl underneath.
This is an interesting old fashioned three-dimensional wooden puzzle. The four-sided pieces require a lot of attention to visible and tactile shape. Although the puzzle aspect is more for older children, our toddler also likes to play with the pieces, imagining them to be a variety of different objects and includes them in his block tower.
